BOMB their butts!

I want you readers to understand that what follows here is MY opinion, and as such, it doesn’t mean a thing to anyone else but ME. People are going to agree with me or disagree with me; I don’t have a problem either way.

But make no mistake about it; this nation has its hands full of problems coming at us from virtually every direction, both at home and abroad. And, admit it or not, the most critical ones we’re facing are right here at HOME.

However, there isn’t enough space here, or anywhere else for that matter, to cover them in any meaningful way; so I’m not even going to try.

On the other hand, it takes little common sense to realize that we’re not likely to succeed in cleaning up other moral/political houses as long as our own is a noticeable pigsty.

And both politically and morally, BOTH parties—the ELEPHANT people and the DONKEY people—are equally responsible.

But still, we seem to have come to the erroneous conclusion that, no matter how inept our foreign relations policies have become, preemptive air-strikes will get the problems under our control.

I’m a product of Viet Nam; I was drafted and served two combat missions in that virtual hellhole.

People called it a war, but it wasn’t an OFFICIAL war because the United States Congress never actually got around to declaring it. But we still suffered TENS of thousands of Americans killed, wounded, and missing—with more than a handful still missing to this day.

Here’s my point to bringing this up relative to preemptive air-strikes.

You see, we bombed the crap out of North Vietnam and, later on, Cambodia. BOMB! BOMB! BOMB! We did it almost 24 by 7 for the duration of the war. And the North Vietnamese didn’t even have an air force with which to return the favor.

But you know WHAT? We still lost THAT war!

And no matter how many ways the politicians spun it to make it sound otherwise, we, the most powerful nation on the globe, with the most advanced, sophisticated air-power known to humanity, still LOST.

But what’s even more disturbing is the fact that we could have “lost” it much sooner, only with far few American casualties, had the late President, L. B. Johnson, not refused to become the first president to lose a war, even though it was a pointless one in which we should never gotten involved in the first place.

Nor have we won anything since. Iraq has not been a victory for anyone but the Islamists, and Afghanistan isn’t going to end well, either.

We’ve become a nation OBSESSED with pollsters and eager poll-takers. Our politicians love it because it gives them a chance to see which way the winds are blowing . . . letting them know when to be “FOR” or “AGIN” something.

And, as always, the cable “news” networks, along with issue oriented talk radio, will choose up sides to tell the American population at WHAT they should be enraged.

Now, we have ISIS on our political “bad-guys-to-rid-the-world-of” to-do list. And make no mistake about it; this crowd is not just nasty, but VICIOUSLY nasty.

And, no matter what ISIS claims, they’re a political movement. It’s just that the movement, itself, is unabashedly RELIGION-based. So, for these fanatics, dying is an honor steeped with eternal rewards as long as it’s in the name of Allah.

This horde of blood-thirsty murders happen to be Islamists of the most fanatical type, but virtually every religion has had its share of fanatics—centuries ago it was the Christians, and before that it was the Romans killing the Christians. Here’s a handy shortlist.

FERVOR is now—has always been, and most likely always will be—the prime directive for religious fanaticism. And ISIS just happens to be the most recent iteration of this particular brand of fervor.

We can bomb this crowd out of existence, but it’s not going to stop ISIS-like movements from popping up all over the world.

But this ISIS crowd isn’t going to invade the United States; they won’t have to. The world is replete with intellectual and emotional dim-bulbs in search of religiously justified reasons to kill people. And the United States has no shortage of them.

Here’s one example. And keep in mind that this is only ONE source. We’re just beginning to investigate a lot of this fringe stuff. The odds definitely favor betting on finding more—a LOT more of it.

We already have home-grown preachers telling their respective “flocks” what the BIBLE commands them to do in order for them to enter the “Kingdom of Heaven.”

Pick a cause du jure; homosexuality has always been high on various religious wrath lists for many of these idiots. Put them to death is a seemingly increasing rallying cry for some of them.

And, yes, such utterances always raise public outcries, but the outcries don’t come close to the number of people who buy into a literal interpretation of the Bible, no matter the topic.

We’re awash with self-proclaimed “experts” on, NOT just the WILL of GOD, but precisely WHAT He wants us to do if we’re to enter the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

The human race will likely destroy itself. And once we succeed in doing so, Earth, as it did for billions of years before humans showed up, will not even miss us.

The fact is that whether we’re dealing with religion or something else, we’re a cranky lot that’s always been obsessed with its own perceived almighty self-importance. The late Carl Sagan put it quite succinctly.

“The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.”

And to this list of miscreants let me add ALL religious zealots, Islamic, Christian, or whatever. And whether they’re preaching from faraway places or from pulpits in houses of worship in our own American neighborhoods, they’re just as dangerous.
